New Effects Controls in Adobe AE CC 2014

Yesterday we celebrated the launch of Adobe Creative Cloud 2014 by taking an in-depth look at the new Live Text Integration feature between Adobe After Effects CC and Adobe Premiere Pro. Today I want to take a close look at another area of improvement in After Effects CC: New Effect Controls.

After Effects has long been a powerhouse for applying effects, with hundreds of them bundled with the software and thousands more available from third parties. But the ability to blend these effects with the original layer has been inconsistent across these plugins… until now.

In addition, for quite a while After Effects has allowed you to control the local application of an effect to a layer through the use of adjustment layers. While certainly powerful, there are limits to what you can do with this approach, but the Giant Pulsing Brains™ in Adobe’s Dynamic Media group have resolved most of them with the addition of effect masks.

Let’s take a look at both of these exciting features. BONUS: Giant Squirrel!
